Artist Bio
Mike Check is not just his stage name, it’s his real name. Picking up the drum sticks at the early age of 7 would help him learn of life with rhythm. Clanging on the drums as a youngster, Check was drawn to the hip-hop sound that his heart now beats to.
After substituting the drumsticks with a pen, Check crafted himself into a versatile lyricist, playing to the ladies. When old blue eyes isn’t charming the girl next door, he’s bridging the gap between real life situations and our dreams. His underlying message to us, is ‘Dream Big.’
Coming from a small town with not many opportunities, Check had to ‘Dream Big’ and gravitate towards NYC’s bright lights. Even while struggling to pay rent in an unsympathetic city, Check never doubted his aspirations and instead used it to fuel the emotions that drive his music. His solo debut mixtape ‘Check Me Out, dropped in 2010, and has continuously gained notoriety. Couple that with his powerful performances that have wowed crowds with explosive energy, and you have the story of the hometown hero, doing everything they said he couldn’t.
In late 2010, Mike Check’s buzz intensified after winning season 2 of NYC’s most prominent showcase, ‘Hip Hop Unplugged.’ A panel of esteemed judges, including Lenny S, Rockwilder, and DJ Scratch, all agreed that Check has the talent to do everything he has planned. He continued his brilliant performances at the Sugar Bar, Don Hills, Times Square Arts Center, Velour Lounge, and other venues thoughout the tri-state area.
His live shows create an atmosphere that you will absorb from the jump. His emotions become something that you can personally feel. While taking you on this roller coaster ride of a show, he’ll fly you through peaks and valleys that he has experienced. His showmanship proves he is destined for the big lights, with his unique style and lyricism paving the way.
After weaving through a most complex industry and igniting his career independently, Check jump-started The Kinetic Music Group (TKMG), a business aimed at helping other independent artists navigate today’s music industry.
Mike Check has felt very fortunate through the years, being able to follow his dreams. With that in mind, he has started giving back to the less fortunate in his community. Through his work with various foundations, he has been part of many great causes. This includes being directly involved in helping to raise money for rebuilding a basketball court in his hometown, adopting families in need for the holidays, and sponsoring children living in unimaginable circumstances in Africa.
Mike Check is now climbing higher than ever, rocking shows and consistently increasing his fan base. Anticipation is growing over his sophomore mixtape, ‘Personal Check,’ slated for a 3nd quarter release in 2011. More powerful and feel good music is expected, with production coming from Matty Ells of Lay’d Back Ent., Sean Glass of Thurotype Productions, William “Guardian” Goodman, and other talented producers. After experiencing his music, you’ll think of much more than just a sound check everytime you hear “Mike Check 1, 2, 1, 2!”
