Artist Bio

The music of Ava Lemert comes from a place of passion, love and loss. It's music from the heart and for the heart, best described as 70's inspired pop-soul, smooth jazz. With a voice that is classic and powerful, Ava accompanies herself with a soulful sax that adds a tone and color to her songs which is all but forgotten in today's popular music. Ava Lemert is a one-woman do-it-yourself music enterprise. Taking care of everything from songwriting to recording, booking shows, publishing, marketing, promoting and designing her own graphics— she does it all. Having just released her third album, 12welve, Lemert has embraced the opportunities of the social web to help grow her audience and connect with fans, including the creation of her own YouTube video series, titled “The Sax Lady,” where she not only talks about her instrument but also gives helpful advice to beginners. The glimmer of Ava's many talents has caught the eye of some impressive names in the music business. "Working on a Groovy Thing," the only cover on 12welve, was produced and arranged by Tower of Power keyboardist, Roger Smith. With a fresh arrangement, luscious strings, vocal harmonies and Ava's sizzling sax, the song is reborn with Ava's unique, signature sound. Ava was enamoured with music as a young adult, yet was too afraid of rejection to pursue it professionally. As she entered the working world, her music dreams were ultimately forgotten about. Life happened and the music ended. But with maturity and life experiences, self-confidence grows... and that's one thing Ava Lemert certainly no longer lacks today. Ava began performing as a solo singer/songwriter/saxophonist in Spring 2008 out of a personal tragedy. "My mom had lymphoma and I dove into my music to keep from falling apart," she reflects. "I thought it would be great for the two of us to rediscover music together and use the power of music not only as personal therapy, but as an experience to connect deeper with my mother." Sadly, Ava's mother lost her fight. This was the pivotal moment that made Ava vow to never turn her back on music again. Based in Sacramento, California, Ava is busy performing in the area to support her latest album, 12welve. Her bucket list is filled to the brim with future plans of music videos, booking many more shows, festivals and private functions, recording and releasing new music and collaborations, and ultimately following the muse wherever it may lead her. Ava Lemert, sax-infected soul with a voice to match and a love for classic pop songs.
