Lock comes out of the San Francisco Bay Area and was founded by Lloyd Ellis, Vic Jones, Chris Knight and Doug Traser. The 4 members have a quite interesting and somewhat tangled past with each other. Doug and Vic have been close friends for over 25 years and are neighbors. Chris and Doug go back 14 years when they started Nine Pound Grind together (later renamed as Stonkulture). After 10 years, Doug decided to take a break from the local music scene, leading Chris to co-found a project under the title of Prevail in which Lloyd played bass. After the decision was made to dissolve the Prevail project, Chris and Lloyd reached out to Doug and Vic, who at the time were considering starting a project together, to see if they were interested in starting a new project. After a great discussion over some BBQ, the 4 made plans to give it a try. The chemistry was there immediately. Perhaps much of it is attributed to their inter-twined pasts, but mostly it is the mature attitude equally shared among the 4. The band embraces a common motto “Writing and playing music should be fun. The moment it stops being fun, it becomes a burden.” Lock has thrown all genre rules out the window. The band refuses to be held to just one genre. Lock’s music ranges from a semi-jazz feel to all out in your face metal, sometimes even within the same song. Listing the influences is pointless since all 4 members draw from many different genres. This alone puts Lock in a class of it’s own.
