The Cougars present a classic comedic Punk 101
The Cougars categorize themselves as POP music. Who am I to argue with them. Although…( smilingly venturing an argument ), they sound more punk to me. Disclaimer : (they are noted as a punk band elsewhere).
From the opening line of the first song it has the tongue-in-cheek lyrics ,angst and hopeful thrashing guitars for which punk is known. I forgot to add self deprecation. Changing Lanes starts off: “Oh my God , what have you done..you gone and turned her lesbian…tonight, and maybe its your lazy ways that made her announce the news today or maybe she’s just an attention seeker”. It’s comedic farce as the organ in the background plays a game-show type loop where the audience laughs as the host and his lovely assistant heckle you.
The lyrics deserve a listen so I wont spoil it for you by quoting any more from this one.One has to be impressed with the brave songwriting as almost every last flaw is revealed and one cant help but wonder if this is autobiographical.
“Don’t let it get you down” continues the audio sitcom as it puts a positive spin on your friends being “banned from casinos”.It’s a classic, classic take on the ups and downs of friendships ,of almost unconditional camaraderie.” A Day in the Dam” is probably the quintessential narrative of a walk through Amsterdam’s most famous attractions as seen through the eyes of an average Englishman.
Just a little warning before you venture off to satisfy your curiosity and listen to the tunes described here:
- While there were no expletives picked up during the review of the music
- The lyrics might be a little vulgar for sensitive listeners as it lightheartedly pokes fun at human nature.
- But then again if Punk Rock is your cup of Tea this shouldn’t be a problem then ‘innit’?
Enjoy the laughs and see yourself painted in some of these lyrics. Listen to the The Cougars here – http://www.theindie.biz/artists/bio/42280

Very nice ideas, but what perspectives do you think indie bands will face in 2012?
